Following the conclusion of the Manchester derby, Manchester City have now played the English Premier League’s “big six” on at least one occasion this season. The Sky Blues have boasted a good record during this run, and they find themselves in second place in the 2021/22 EPL table after 11 games.

In this span, Manchester City defeated Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. City outscored their opponents by eight goals to none, and they kept a clean sheet in all three of these matches. Moreover, the wins against Chelsea and Manchester United came on the road.

Manchester City also earned a hard-fought draw against Liverpool at Anfield. The Sky Blues drew the Reds 2-2, and City collected an important point on the road.

Finally, Manchester City lost to Tottenham Hotspur in London on the opening day of the 2021/22 season. The match was close, as the Spurs bested City 1-0.

The results show that Manchester City have been able to go head-to-head against English football’s heavy hitters despite not having a recognized striker. In total, City have earned 10 points from a possible 15 in these games. What is more impressive is that seven of these points were earned on the road.

City’s record is even better if they include the result against Leicester City. The Foxes have started to emerge as a regular “big seven” team in recent seasons. In this case, Manchester City defeated Leicester City at the start of the season 1-0 in what was also a road victory. If this result is included in Manchester City’s tally this season, then they have earned 13 points from 18.

The season is far from over, as  in the 2021/22 EPL season. The Sky Blues, however, will know that their most difficult matches in the first half of the season have been played, and now they will have to focus on getting results from the mid-and bottom-table teams. Should City continue this trend, then they may be on course to retain the EPL title.
