According to recent reports from El Nacional, Manchester City have proposed a swap deal to Barcelona which involves a world-class midfielder and a world-class winger.
Barcelona have been eyeing a winger for some time now, and hence have been heavily linked with Manchester City’s outcast star Raheem Sterling. Recently sacked manager Ronald Koeman had asked for reinforcement on this front before but in vain.
For the new manager Xavi’s system to work, they require the presence of wide wingers on either side of the front three.
Barcelona currently lack players who can play on the wing. Ousmane Dembele’s constant injury struggles keep him out of the playing eleven almost all the time and Depay’s tendency to play through the center does not help Barcelona at all.
While Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling has been linked to Barcelona for some time now, the need for a player like him at the club has never been higher.
While Guardiola is willing to let the English star leave the club, he has proposed an exchange offer to Barcelona. This deal will see Frenkie De Jong move to Manchester City.
The player is unhappy at Manchester City due to his restricted game-time. Jack Grealish, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva have taken over the starting eleven and as of right now, it does not look like Pep Guardiola will drop any one of them for Sterling.
Sterling has also recently announced in public that he is willing to try a new challenge abroad, which clearly underlines his intention of leaving the Etihad.
De Jong has been far from his best at Barcelona and could be parted ways with, especially considering the kind of talent Barcelona is churning from its academy, with Nico Gonzalez, who is also linked to Manchester City, being the current biggest star at the club.
While City will have to offer an extra 20 million Euros to Barcelona, do you think this will be a good deal for Manchester City, especially considering Fernandinho’s age?
