Manchester City to do a favor to FC Barcelona
Manchester City and FC Barcelona share a good relationship and that is a fact. The good nature of the relationship can be outlined to the former Barcelona and current City boss. Pep Guardiola has never shied away from the fact that Barcelona is the club of his dreams and life. Having said that, with the latest developments taking place at Barca with Xavi taking over the reins, it is understood that Pep Guardiola is willing to do a favor to his former side.
As per El Nacional, City are now open to parting ways with Raheem Sterling this coming winter window despite holding a contrary stand a couple of months back. Sterling, 26, has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad and has started in only six games this season.
The Englishman in fact, recently admitted that he would be open to playing abroad if it meant that he would be getting more minutes on the pitch.
Barcelona were heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old this past summer but with their finances at an all-time low, a move for the former Liverpool man could not materialize. It is believed that City would be open to giving Barcelona priority provided that the former La Liga champions are indeed interested in bringing Sterling to the Camp Nou.
There is interest for Sterling within the Premier League as well. Liverpool are said to be in favor of buying back Raheem Sterling from City whereas Newcastle are looking to build a project for the future and they are insistent on including Sterling in their plans.
For City though, it will always be better if Sterling leaves (only if the right offer comes along) for a club outside England.
Xavi, the new Barcelona boss is said to be looking for pure wingers on the flanks to fuel the Barca attack and that is why Barcelona are said to be more interested in signing Raheem Sterling than ever. With their current finances though, a loan with a mandatory purchase option is the only one that looks feasible for the former La Liga champions.
It will be interesting to see what the Cityzens decide when it comes to parting ways with Sterling who is only 26 and is yet to hit his prime.
