Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City picked up a crucial win on Sunday as they were able to triumph Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Cityzens managed to snatch all three points from their city rivals courtesy of an own goal from Eric Bailly and a goal from Bernardo Silva.
Manchester City shine bright in the first 45 mins
At Old Trafford, the Sky Blues were off to a flying start as their attacking approach was evident from the first whistle of the game. Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva combined beautifully upfront and in the seventh minute, they were rewarded with the opening goal after United defender Eric Bailly saw his deflected clearance go back into his net.
The hosts did make some decent attacking runs into the City half and their talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo was almost close to adding an equalizer but eventually saw his fierce shot blocked by Ederson.
Right before the cusp of halftime, the visitors added their second of the night after Bernardo Silva poked Cancelo’s cross past David De Gea, who himself was partly at fault for the goal.
Guardiola’s Manchester City stop United from making a ‘comeback’
In the second half, Solskjaer’s side were expected to make a comeback as they have often been regarded as ‘comeback kings’.However, City were not given any solid competition as the hosts started the final half with a dull intent.
Guardiola’s side although made fewer attacking runs in the second half and instead were focused on defusing the Red Devils attack. Nevertheless, Manchester City’s young forwards Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus were a constant threat to the opponent’s defense, and the former was came seemingly close to adding a third goal for his side.
In the end, United were simply outclassed by the Sky Blues on all fronts of the pitch. Their no.7 was not able to hurt the Cityzens and was majorly confined outside the Cityzens box.
To sum it up, Manchester City had a breezy outing at their rival’s den and by far were the ‘perfect’ team at the Old Trafford. After the final whistle, City boss Guardiola would surely be the happiest of the two managers as the Spaniard witnessed his side stage a fulfilling act away from home.
