Manchester City’s replacement plan for Pep Guardiola is not something that the fans like!
Manchester City have enjoyed immense success over the last five years and the credit for that largely goes to Pep Guardiola. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager joined City in 2017 in his quest for his maiden UEFA Champions League title outside of Barcelona.
Until 2020/21 bringing home the coveted UCL trophy to the Etihad looked like a far-fetched reality but Pep Guardiola being the shrewd tactician he is, employed the false-9 strategy to near-perfect effect and only a solitary goal separated the Cityzens from the eventual victors in Chelsea in the final.
Guardiola has managed to establish himself as a cult figure in Manchester and will go down as a club legend for reasons already stated and besides, it is quite obvious that he is one of the greater managers of the game.
The Spaniard’s man-management skills are second to none and that is one of the key reasons why he has tasted so much success wherever he has attempted to stamp his name.
Although Guardiola has been on the circuit for over a decade now, the 50-year-old feels that it is time to step away from management for a while post the completion of his contract with Manchester City in 2023.
The former Barcelona coach recently admitted that he will indeed be stepping away from club football post the expiry of his contract in 2023 and could look to explore the option of managing the National team (Spain).
While City obviously want to keep ahold of the manager with the best win percentage in Premier League history, it is quite natural to understand that City will have no problems parting ways with Guardiola if and when the Spaniard decides to call it quits, temporarily or permanently. Having said that, in the recently concluded Transfer Window Podcast featuring Jonathan Northcroft and Duncan Castles, a rather surprising report came out.
As per Jonathan Northcroft, City are looking at the former Liverpool and current Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, to succeed Pep Guardiola at the Etihad stadium.
While Rodgers has certainly done a tremendous job replacing Claudio Ranieri at English midlands, many fans and pundits are of the opinion that he will find it difficult to succeed at the Etihad stadium. Especially, now that Pep Guardiola has set such high standards for anyone in line to succeed him.
Do you think Manchester City should focus on bringing in Brendan Rodgers to replace Pep Guardiola or should they keep an eye out for other options?
Let us know.
