Manchester City agree eight figure buy-back clause for Spanish defender

According to recent reports, Manchester City have agreed to sell one of their defenders to Sporting Lisbon, but only on the condition that he will have the door open for a potential Etihad Stadium return after slapping an eight-figure buy-back clause on him.
The player in question is one of Manchester City’s most promising on-loan youngsters, Pedro Porro.
The 22-year old joined Man City from sister club Girona in the summer of 2019 for a rumoured 10.8 million pounds, however, he was immediately loaned out to Real Valladolid.
Porro spent two years at Girona before coming to Man City, having replaced former Manchester City youth player Pablo Maffeo at the Spanish club.
He then spent last season on loan with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, who reportedly have the option to purchase the Spain international defender for around 7 million pounds.
Recent reports say that Lison has agreed to sign the left-back after lengthy negotiations with Manchester City. The contract includes an eight-figure buy-back clause of around 20 million pounds and a 45 million pounds release clause.
He scored three goals in 30 league appearances last season and was an integral part of Sporting as it won the league title in Portugal – so it’s easy to see why the club are willing to splash almost €10 million to get the young defender back permanently.
Such a clause would allow Manchester City to purchase the player back for well below his release clause value in the future, should his value rise and his ability becomes that of a premier league player.
Manchester City are known to include buy-back clauses in the players they sell. Some examples include Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, RB Leipzig’s Angeliño, and Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa.
This not only helps Manchester City sell some dead wood from the club but also gives them extra money to try and finance a move for Erling Haaland or Dusan Vlahavoic, two players they have been heavily linked with.
