Manchester City monitoring OGC Nice star ahead of the January window
Manchester City did not have the best of summer transfer windows as they failed to get Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane’s deal over the line. This left Pep Guardiola with just one summer signing in Jack Grealish, who arrived for a mammoth transfer fee from Aston Villa.
The Sky Blues were in desperate need of a striker after parting ways with Sergio Aguero at the end of last season. However, they haven’t faced any problems whatsoever in scoring goals this season, with Pep Guardiola’s false nine system working to great effect.
Ferran Torres was in good form before sustaining an ankle injury on international duty that has sidelined him for over two months. In Torres’ injury absence, Phil Foden has led the Manchester City attack with great aplomb and delivered some eye-catching displays of late while combing well with Jack Grealish, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan.
Yet, it won’t come as a surprise if the Cityzens reignites their interest in signing a centre-forward in January. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester City are targeting a move for OGC Nice sensation Amine Gouiri at the turn of the year.
Amine Gouiri, 21, is currently one of the hottest properties in Ligue 1, thanks to his blistering start to the season for OGC Nice. The France under-21 international has been in ruthless goalscoring form, bagging six goals in 12 league matches. With four assists on top of that, the forward has also given a glimpse of his creative side.
Fichajes claim Pep Guardiola wishes to bring Gouiri to the Etihad Stadium as the youngster, who has been likened to Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema, is a clever operator whose technical prowess on the ball make him a perfect fit at Manchester City.
Considering his age, profile and recent progress at Nice under Christophe Galtier, a move for Gouiri would make complete sense for the Sky Blues. However, the English champions would have to splash around €50 to sign the Frenchman, the report concludes.
It now remains to be seen whether Guardiola’s club go Gouiri in January or monitor him throughout the season before making a decision.
