Manchester City came second best in their round of 16 fixture clash with West Ham edging past the Defending Champions 5-3  in penalties. This defeat concluded their record-breaking unbeaten streak which held up five consecutive years in the Carabao Cup.

City’s midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne came under scrutiny for being his unusual self on the eve of the match. After being on the sidelines for the Skyblues victory against the Seagulls, KDB featured in the starting 11 despite him being rather conservative off late.

"In a recent interview, Pep Guardiola admitted that"
"“Everyone deserves to play, is ready to play. Kevin came back from important injuries in the last part of the season and was so important against Liverpool, Chelsea and Brugge. He was there as always. Day by day he will get his best form. “"

The 31-year-old’s dreadful history with injuries is not a surprise to anyone, he even picked up a fractured eye socket in the Champions League final against Chelsea. The Belgian midfielder was carrying an ankle injury leading to this year’s Premier League which kept him on the sidelines for a significant amount of time.

KDB has been quite sensational in the latter fixtures of both EPL and UEFA Champions League, steering the ball time and again into the opponents third of the pitch.

In Manchester City ‘s away clash against Brighton, where he was subbed in the 78th minute, De Bruyne created the most goal scoring opportunities by a player in the whole match which substaniates his influence on the Club’s Unbeaten streak in Premier League, which is yet to be defied.

Pep Guardiola seems in no hustle to drop the Belgian midfielder, but his lack of form hasn’t left Man City’s boss with many options either. The likes of Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan have been able to steer the City’s ship thus far. However, City would hope for an in-form De Bruyne to turn up sooner than later especially with the Manchester United clash in the hindsight.

So, will KDB be back to his usual best by the much awaited Manchester Derby?
