Manchester City fans were seen screaming with joy even before their away fixture kick-off against fourth-placed Brighton, which eventually culminated to be a one-sided affair with the Visitors leaving no stone unturned in a 4-1 victory at the AMEX Stadium.
According to reports, the ecstasy of the fans was due to the words spoken by Former English player and Brighton and Hove Albion manager, Graham Potter during the pre-match press conference regarding City’s Progress during this edition of the English Premier League.
In a recent interview,
"Graham Potter :”You got to hold your hands up and say the opponent at 0-0 is a different opponent at 3-0,”“I watched Manchester City play at Chelsea and they made Chelsea look like an ordinary team- and these are the Champions of Europe.“They went to Anfield and, a part from Mo Salah, were fantastic. We can always do things better but you also have to credit the opponent for making things very very difficult for us.”Source : Simon Bajkowski"
City boss Pep Guardiola was thoroughly satisfied with the clinical performance put up by Man City against the seagulls. After having spent a substantial period of the campaign on the bench owing to a back injury, Ilkay Gundogan seems to have found his element immediately, with a goal in the initial moments of the match.
A brace from Phil Foden prior to the break put City in a position from where there was no looking back. The Seagulls were quite impressive in the second essay where they kept most of the possession and even looked threatening for the most part of it.
Finally, the home side found their consolation in the 81st minute when Alexis Mac Allister sent the ball soaring into the bottom right corner from the spot. The match finished on a bright note as far as Man City were concerned with Riyad Mahrez netting the ball quite nonchalantly in injury time.
Manchester City after the victory retain their third place, two points behind Table-toppers Chelsea and a solitary point separating them from the Red-hot Liverpool.
With an extension with Pep Guardiola in 2023 looking unfeasible, how many of you see Graham Potter succeeding in his throne?
