Manchester City and Pep Guardiola’S faith in Phil Foden is paying off as the English prospect has already made himself a part of eight goals this season with a brace coming off his boots at the Amex Stadium against Brighton this past weekend.

Manchester City failed to land a striker this past summer as their chase of Harry Kane came to a rather tame end with the English skipper announcing towards the end of the summer window that he would be playing for Tottenham for the foreseeable future. Having said that, apart from the 2-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain, Pep Guardiola’s team has looked relatively comfortable in front of the goal despite lacking a proper number nine.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has had to try some new things this term and his decision to place Foden in a central striking role is paying off rich dividends. The player seems to be enjoying the new role given to him by the Spanish boss as well.

Speaking to Sky Sports about the new role handed over to him by Pep, Foden said:

"“I’m enjoying it. I can drop deep and get the ball and pick the passes off. It’s a new role for me and I can say I’m really enjoying it,”“It changes game to game. Sometimes I stay higher than normal, but this game they went man-to-man so I dropped a bit deeper and I thought we used the extra man well.”Source: Sky Sports"

Foden was unlucky not to bag his maiden hat-trick but the 22-year-old registered a whopping eight shots on target and it just shows that his confidence has been growing in front of the goal.
