Manchester City maintained their winning streak in the Premier League on Saturday as they put up another impressive performance against Brighton. Phil Foden. Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez were on target for the Cityzens, which helped them beat the Seagulls 4-1 at the AMEX Stadium.
Guardiola’s side had a solid start to this away fixture as they terrorized the Brighton backline with some superb attacking display. Ilkay Gundogan stepped up for the Sky Blues as he opened the scoring for his team after being set up by teammate Bernardo Silva from close range.
Just before the half-hour mark, Phil Foden added his name on the scoresheet as the Englishman was handed a fine pass from Jack Grealish which was easily slotted back home by the young forward, making it 2-0 in favor of the visitors.
A couple of minutes later, the 21-year-old chipped in with another goal after pouncing upon Jesus’ rebound. In the first 45 minutes of the game, the defending champions looked sharp as they had some great opportunities in their attacking half. A 3-0 lead at half-time had more or less sealed the game for Guardiola’s men.
The second half of the match was slightly interesting from the Brighton perspective as the hosts started to show improvements in their final third. Their only consolation came in the form of a penalty goal from Alexis MacAllister.
Despite claiming a goal in the final quarter of the game, Graham Potter’s men did not have much to fight as City substitute Riyad Mahrez finished the game off with a clean strike, therefore, ending the game with a 4-1 lead over the Seagulls.
After the full-time whistle, Guardiola will surely be satisfied with his team’s performance at the Amex Stadium. Against Graham Potter’s side, the Cityzens were truly the better side as they succeeded in all fronts of the pitch.
Manchester City will now head back to their domestic duties as they are set to face West Ham in the Round of 16 fixture of the EFL Cup. After the win against Brighton, the Sky Blues have retained their third position in the league table and are only two points away from the top spot.
