Manchester City intensity their pursuit of Bundesliga powerhouse
Manchester City were well documented in attempting to poach Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer to address the void created by Sergio Aguero’s exit. However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy maintained his stance of keeping Kane at the club, even though the English champions were ready to smash the British transfer record.
This resulted in Manchester City heading into the brand new season without an out-and-out number nine in the squad. Regardless of having no focal point in attack, Pep Guardiola’s side have not faced many problems in scoring goals and further gave a testament of their attacking quality by smashing Club Brugge 5-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday.
But that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from linking a host of forwards with the Cityzens. According to a report by SportBild (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester City are ‘getting hotter’ regarding their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
Erling Haaland, 21, has been turning heads around Europe for the last two years with his incredible goalscoring ability and is destined to join a bigger club than Borussia Dortmund in the future. 70 goals in 69 appearances for Dortmund is no mean feat, with the striker coveted by some of Europe’s bigwigs.
The Norwegian sensation has a €75m release clause in his contract which kicks in next summer and the chances of him staying at the Bundesliga club beyond next summer are ‘extremely slim’, SportBild (h/t Sport Witness) reports.
Manchester City certainly have the money to meet Haaland’s release clause and to offer him a big salary. Furthermore, this report adds that Manchester City would have both Kane and Haaland both at the apex of their transfer list, apparently trying to sign either one of them next summer.
When comparing Haaland to Kane, Man City signing the former makes perfect sense due to his age, potential, and price. Also, if Haaland wants a manager that can help him unlock his true potential, he won’t get a better manager than City boss Pep Guardiola.
