After a hectic international break, Manchester City’s senior men’s team is back in action.

The Sky Blues will play six matches across three competitions throughout the month of October. City will be playing games in the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and EFL “Carabao” Cup.

Manchester City started the month by visiting Liverpool in an EPL match. The game took place on 3 October. The Sky Blues have traditionally struggled at Anfield, but they recently earned a hard-fought draw.

Following the international break, the Mancunians hosted Burnley on 16 October. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola opted to rest some of his players in this match. While they were far from their best, City earned an important victory as they continue to put pressure on Chelsea and Liverpool.

Manchester City will then shift their gears to the Champions League’s Group A. After losing to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Matchday 2, City find themselves in third with four games to play. The Sky Blues will travel to Belgium, where they will face Club Brugge. The Belgians have been a surprise in Group A thus far, having drawn PSG on Matchday 1 and beaten RB Leipzig on Matchday 2. City’s game against Brugge will take place on 19 October. This is the first meeting between the Englishmen and the Belgians.

Following their Champions League fixture, the Sky Blues will return to EPL action. Manchester City will head down to the English south coast, where they will visit Brighton. The game will be played on 23 October. The Sky Blues lost to the Seagulls 3-2 in last season’s encounter. Their loss, however, came after City had been declared the 2020/21 EPL Champions.

The Mancunians will then enter the Carabao Cup’s Round of 16, where they will face West Ham United. The cup match will be held on 27 October. Manchester City and West Ham previously faced each other in this competition during the 2013/14 season. City won the first leg in Manchester 6-0 and then won the second leg 3-0 in London. The Irons, however, have troubled the Sky Blues in recent seasons. Perhaps this match will be closer than what is listed on paper.

Manchester City end the month of October with a home game against Crystal Palace. The game will be played on 30 October. Like the Irons, the Eagles have also troubled the Sky Blues in recent seasons, most notably in December 2018 when Palace won 3-2, but City will do everything they can to ensure that they end the month of October on a positive note.

Overall, while September saw Manchester City face several difficult opponents in a short period of time, October appears to have more routine opposition. These teams, of course, should not be overlooked, but it will give City an opportunity to rotate their squad as they approach the festive period in December and January.
