Manchester City ahead in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund goal-machine
Manchester City are in a dire need of a top-quality striker or a finisher. This past summer saw the Sky Blues come perilously close to signing Harry Kane on a deal that would see them break the newly-set British transfer record when the Cityzens decided to buy Jack Grealish.
Tottenham Hotspur’s firm stance of not wanting to let their main man leave for a direct rival meant that City’s pursuit of the Englishman was doomed to fail, and so it did.
City have also been linked with the prodigy Erling Braut Haaland. The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and PSG have all been linked with a move for the 21-year-old. Haaland has got 68 goals and 19 assists next to his name from only 67 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
The Norwegian striker has been tipped with a big-money move since the last summer and now it does look like he might be on his way away from Germany next term. Haaland’s £77 million release clause only gets activated next summer and that is when City will like to fancy their chances of adding another top talent to their ranks.
Sportwitness understands that Manchester City are planning to get ahead of the pack by tempting Dortmund to accept a big-money offer for Haaland this winter.
It would indeed be very good strategy to get Haaland in the winter itself rather than competing with other top European clubs next summer. Having said that, City will have to make an offer worth £100 million at least.
However, BVB do not usually let go of their main stars in the middle of the season but with them facing the probability of getting £100 million versus £77 million next summer.
Do you think Manchester City can do the unthinkable and sign Erling Braut Haaland this January?
