Following a good start to the 2021/22 Premier League the only constant talking point about Manchester City has been the club’s lack of a perfect finisher or a number nine.

Pep Guardiola had only one proper option in Gabriel Jesus following City’s failed pursuit of Tottenham Hotspurs’ Harry Kane.

Guardiola however, improvised and started utilizing Ferran Torres’s finishing ability by playing him as a striker on many occasions.

Torres’ recent form also earned him the role of a regular starter in the City XI but unfortunately for Pep the winger has sustained a serious injury and is set to be out for the next 3 months minimum.

This comes as per the Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

Ferran Torres sustained a metatarsal fracture and that will see him miss out on the next three season-defining months.

The Spaniard was enjoying a fine run of form with 2 goals and an assist to his name.

"“Serious injury for Ferrán Torres, Pep Guardiola announces: “Ferrán will be out for two and a half months, or maybe three months. It’s broken metatarsal”. 🔵🇪🇸 #MCFC #ManCity”Source: Fabrizio Romano on Twitter"

While this is highly unfortunate for the Sky Blues, it only addresses the underlying problem in the club which currently is lacking an out-and-out striker. Gabriel Jesus sees himself as a winger and cannot be trusted to deliver in the crunch moments.

The defending Premier League champions are tipped to enter the winter window in 2022, in search of the perfect replacement to now-Barcelona player, and former Man City legend, Sergio Aguero.

The likes of Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Mikel Oyarbazal, Dusan Vlahovic, and Robert Lewandowski have all been linked with a move to Manchester City and the Sky Blues could look to accelerate their pursuit of a quality striker.

Who do you think Manchester City should sign as their next striker?
