Manchester City star set to extend his stay at the club
Manchester City have made it very clear that they would count on Phil Foden for the future. The Englishman has taken the world by storm with his displays over the last year and a half. Having said that, City are set to reward the 21-year-old for his performance a new contract.
Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Twitter that City are indeed working towards extending Foden’s contract at the Etihad stadium. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola also believes that Foden is the player to go forward with and considers the 21-year-old to be a key part of the sporting project at the club.

Early talks suggest that the defending Premier League champions are looking to tie down the Englishman on a new six-year contract, one that would see him play in the Sky Blue colours until 2027. Having said that, the talks are indeed progressing in the right direction with the player also eager to stay at Manchester City, which also happens to be his boyhood club.
It is understood that the talks have been going on for three months and an agreement is not too far away. Both parties are said to be feeling ‘optimistic’ when it comes to this deal and it would be very incredulous to think that Foden will not want to reach an agreement with City.
With the January window approaching, the onus is on City to offload some of the fringe players to raise the £75 million which would in-turn go towards buying out Erling Haaland’s release clause. Haaland’s release clause only becomes active next summer though a very surprising big-money move for the Norwegian striker this winter cannot be ruled out.
As far as the league is concerned, City have made a good start to this season and are currently sitting in the third position on the table and are only two points away from the league leaders in Chelsea.
