Manchester City plot swoop for Bayern Munich midfield maestro
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester City are interested in signing Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich next summer.
Joshua Kimmich, 26, joined Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig in 2015 and has since gone on to become one of the best midfielders in the world. During his early days at Bayern Munich under then-manager Pep Guardiola, he initially started as a right-back but with time, experience and quality he has developed into a top defensive midfielder, racking up an eye-catching 33 goals and 75 assists in 272 appearances.
The German international has started the new campaign well with three goals and four assists in 11 games to date.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola knows Kimmich inside out having worked with him at Bayern Munich. Largely the 26-year-old midfielder’s rich success is down to the coaching done initially by Guardiola. And the Spanish tactician wants him at Manchester City, despite knowing it’ll be very difficult to lure the German away from Munich, Fichajes reports.
Manchester City are blessed with a star-studded midfield unit with Pep Guardiola having the luxury to pick the players as per a game’s demands. But with Fernandinho out of contract at the end of the season and most likely to leave, llkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne having become injury-prone in recent times and Bernardo Silva linked with a move to Juventus, Guardiola could do well by bringing in a new midfielder.
Owing to Joshua Kimmich’s reputation as arguably the best defensive midfielder in Europe, it is understandable that the Sky Blues are interested in recruiting the player.
Strong on the ball, positionally sound and a tenacious tackler, the Bayern star is a complete midfielder that just about every club on the planet would love to have. His versatility to operate at right-back and as a makeshift centre-back adds more value to the ex-RB Leipzig man’s name.
Plus, Kimmich’s leadership skills, winning mentality and volumes of experience make him indispensable for club and country. At 26, the German schemer is operating at the peak of his powers and could be the ideal replacement for Fernandinho at Manchester City.
While the Sky Blues have also been recently linked with a swoop for Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric, Kimmich could prove to be a sensational acquisition should the Etihad hierarchy manage to acquire his services next term.
