Manchester City are looking to enter the race for the World’s Best
By Zoheb Alam
Manchester City might have been disappointed to have missed out on Tottenham’s Harry Kane as they were keen to slot in a solid forward in their final third. Most importantly, the Sky Blues were not just looking for a striker but were also deeply interested to bring in a successor for their recently departed Sergio Aguero.
Now according to a fresh report from Inter Live, it has been suspected that City have found a ‘new’ strike target and it is none other than Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan. Currently, the Nerazzurri star has become the club talisman post the departure of Romelu Lukaku.
The Argentinian international has stacked up some encouraging goalscoring numbers for his team as in the ongoing season, the striker has already scored five goals in six league appearances so far. Also, the forward has maintained his decent run of form for his national side as he scored against Uruguay in the World Cup Qualifiers.
The 24-year-old striker was recently tipped to shift base in the recent summer window as clubs like Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal were all heavily linked with a move for the Inter man.
But for now, it looks like the Argentine is interested to continue his association with the Nerazzurri outfit, and could soon sign a new contract to extend his stay at the San Siro. His present agreement with Inter will see him stay at the club till the summer of 2023.
Can Manchester City scoop out a deal for Lautaro Martinez?
The Sky Blues have enough finances in their coffer to afford a striker like Martinez and hence they can be assured that money will not be an issue in this proposed transfer deal. City, however, will have to do some convincing from their end in a bid to persuade the Inter star to join the Etihad.
Martinez,24, is slightly inclined towards the idea of staying back with the Nerazzuri as sources in Italy have suggested that the Argentine forward is almost to penning a new deal at the San Siro.
Manchester City have the luxury of two solid strikers in their roster in the shape of Ferran Torres and Gabriel Jesus. However, it remains to be seen whether the defending champions are keen enough to bring in no.9 this winter. Moreover, the club has high-profile targets on their wishlist and in this shopping list, they already have a top-class striker like Erling Haaland.
Will it be a good move to sign Martinez in winter? Or is it better to bring in a more reputed striker like Haaland next summer?
