According to a report from Italian outlet Inter Live, Manchester City are considering a €90m swoop for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.
Signing a striker had been one of the top priorities for Manchester City in the summer transfer window after the exit of Sergio Aguero. The Sky Blues were linked with a host of names throughout the transfer window but nothing materialised, meaning Pep Guardiola had to be content with the sole acquisition of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
After being linked with a high-profile move for Fiorentina starlet Dusan Vlahovic last week, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez is the latest striker to have caught the attention of Manchester City.
Inter Live claims the Cityzens could table a bid of around €90m in a bid to tempt the defending Italian champions to part ways with the Argentinean international. They are willing to offer a ‘mega contract’ for four-and-a-half years, worth €12m net to the player in January.
However, Inter Live adds Martinez is close to signing a new deal with the Nerazzurri. In fact, he has already reached an agreement for a five-year deal worth €6 per season with Inter, with only an official announcement missing.
Despite everything sorted on the table bar official confirmation, the report provides a twist claiming Manchester City can ‘change the cards’.
Manchester City struggled to convert chances against Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool in their last two games, something Pep Guardiola and co. simply must not disregard. Going by recent reports emanating from Italian sources, there is a clear willingness from City to sign a striker in the January transfer window. And it won’t be a surprise if the English champions decide to raid the Italian market for adding the final piece in their jigsaw.
Lautaro Martinez is a top striker, proven in Italy and at the right age to make the leap from Serie A to Premier League. Due to his qualities and style of play, the Argentinean international would be an ideal successor for Aguero at the Etihad Stadium.
