According to a report from Italian news outlet Fantacalcio, Manchester City are among the clubs interested in signing Torino defender Gleison Bremer.

Gleison Bremer, 24, moved to Torino from Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro in July 2018, signing a five-year deal with the Serie A club. After initially struggling to adapt to Italian football, he has become one of the strong pillars of the Torino backline in the last 12-15 months.

The Brazilian centre-back has made 83 appearances for the Turin-based club, scoring 11 goals and assisting a further four. Bremer’s progress with the Serie A outfit has seemingly caught the attention of some big European clubs, with Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Juventus all vying for his signature, Fantacalcio reports.

Bremer has a contract at Torino until the summer of 2023 and looks reluctant to sign an extension, meaning the club would have to sell next year to get some money for the defender. The report adds a January transfer for the 24-year-old Brazilian is likely to cost in the region of €20-€25 million.

In Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has sufficient centre-back options at his disposal. Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte have started the season as a centre-back pairing and have made the Cityzens watertight at the back.

Pep Guardiola’s team have conceded only three goals in seven games, thereby, boasting of the joint-best defensive record along with Chelsea in the Premier League. That being said, Manchester City being linked with a move for Gleison Bremer comes as a big surprise.

Bremer is a strong, robust and aggressive defender with good ball-playing and interceptions skills. He has matured into a reliable, goal-scoring defender for Torino in recent years, and at 24, the Brazilian is still far from his peak years. And interest from a few top clubs across Europe speaks volumes about his quality and potential.

However, Manchester City signing Bremer doesn’t really look like happening unless one of Dias, Ake, Laporte or Stones is offloaded next year.
