According to recent reports, to fill the spot of the ageing Fernandhino, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City want to sign Barcelona’s newest star from the La Masia Nico Gonzalez.
The 19-year old defensive-minded midfielder has moved from the Barca B squad and is now getting regular first-team minutes for the Spanish giants. He has already played six games in all competitions for the club, including five in the La Liga.
However, amid the financial chaos at Barcelona and the shockingly poor form that the team is in, Pep Guardiola wants Manchester City to swoop in for the Spanish youngster.
The report also says that the Catalonian club has no intention of selling Gonzalez, but if Man City make a desirable offer, given the financial situation at the club, it would be difficult for the Barca management to say no.
While Manchester City are linked to other similar minded midfielders, including 36-year old Luka Modric, Denis Zakaria, Florian Neuhaus and English duo Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice, but Pep Guardiola wants a youngster to play alongside Rodri, who can grow and become a world-class player in the recent future.
However, Nico Gonzalez is not the only Barcelona player Manchester City are looking at. In the recent past, they were linked to Samuel Umtiti, Antonie Griezmann, Lionel Messi, Ilaix Moriba and recently, Ansu Fati and Sergi Roberto.
Gonzalez’s talent is obvious and it is certain that he will be a world-class midfielder in the years to come, whether he does with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City or at his home club Barcelona.
