Manchester City confident of beating Liverpool and rivals United to star striker
Manchester City are still in the market to sign a striker. The Cityzens pursued the signature of Harry Kane throughout this past summer but Tottenham Hotspur were in no mood to give in to City’s demands which would eventually see them part ways with their main man.
Having said that, the defending Premier League champions have also been linked with the Borussia Dortmund rising star, Erling Haaland. The 21-year-old is arguably one of the best prospects in the game and is tipped to make a move to the Etihad next summer.
The Norwegian striker’s £77 million release clause only gets activated next summer and a number of clubs are in contention to sign him. The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all been tipped to sign the 21-year-old as well.
In what could come as a major surprise, City are reportedly looking at Benfica hotshot, Darwin Nunez as the potential solution to their number nine woes. Express also understands that City are confident about their chances of signing the 22-year-old, beating the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United in the process.
Nunez has made a bright start to the season, having found the net six times from 7 outings. The Uruguayan striker also scored a brace against Barcelona in an inspiring 3-0 victory over the former La Liga champions.
Nunez is said to be valued at £70 million by the Portuguese outfit and the 22-year-old has been tipped to leave Benfica next summer. In fact, Nunez was also linked with a move away from the club this past summer as well but it wasn’t meant to be.
It is highly unlikely that City would be back for Harry Kane this winter or next summer as the likes of Haaland and Mbappe would be also available for much cheaper. The latter is set to leave PSG on a Bosman and while Real Madrid are said to be the favorites to sign the Frenchman, money could very well play a role in this saga.
Do you think City should go for Nunez or should they invest their faith and money into Haaland?
