Barcelona and Arsenal vying to secure Manchester City star’s signature
Barcelona and Arsenal are looking to secure the signature of one of Manchester City and England’s most prominent stars, Raheem Sterling. Media reports from Spain and England suggest that the 26-year-old’s recent slump has seen him fall down the pecking order, and as such, a move away from the Etihad cannot be ruled out.
As per a report from Onefootball, Barcelona are keen to make a loan move for Raheem Sterling, as they do not boast of a goal-scoring that the English forward possesses. Capable of taking on an opponent, as well as scoring goals from wide positions, Sterling is the kind of player that would suit Barcelona’s profile.
However, the report also adds that Barcelona’s recent financial woes mean they would only be interested in a loan move for Raheem Sterling. Moreover, the Catalans would likely move for RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo first, and if their attempts to land the Spaniard fall flat, only then would they consider Sterling.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are also interested in the former Liverpool star and would be willing to make a move given the green-light from City officials.
Barcelona and Arsenal monitoring Manchester City ace Raheem Sterling
Mikel Arteta knows Raheem Sterling very well from their time together at Manchester City and is a big fan of the player.
With just 20 months remaining in his contract, Sterling is far from a guaranteed starter at City, particularly after the arrival of Jack Grealish. Talks have been ongoing within the club to extend Sterling’s contract but to no fruition.
One of the stars of England’s stellar Euro 2020 campaign, Raheem Sterling has featured just nine times for Manchester City this season, having just a solitary goal and one assist to his name.
However, another interesting statistic worth taking a look at is that the 26-year-old has scored two goals in his last three appearances against his former club.
Will he be able to add to that tally again? We will get to know in a couple of hours’ time, but for the moment, given the interest from Arsenal and Barcelona, Sterling should consider moving away on loan, in order to get back to his stride.
