Manchester City were linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane this past summer but Spurs’ firm stance on not wanting to let their main man leave meant that City would have two of their massive bids, including one worth €150 million, shot down.

The saga reached a rather tame conclusion though it hasn’t managed to solve City’s number nine problems yet. Having made a strong start to the season, the in-from defence is covering over the cracks that are very much evident in the attack. The heart of the matter is that City lack a proper number nine but the likes of Ferran Torres and Gabriel Jesus have done well so far, in that role.

Recent reports have also been indicating that the Cityzens were inclined towards signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain ‘at any cost’ but with the Frenchman looking set to join Real Madrid on a Bosman, City will now have to look at other options.

As per MEN, one of the options that the defending Premier League champions have been looking at is Nice striker, Amine Gouiri.

The 21-year-old has made a bright start to his 2021/22 campaign, notching up 5 goals from 7 appearances, and appears to be in red-hot form.

Gouiri has been valued at £25 million and is a much cheaper alternative to Mbappe but landing him will not be easy as the heavyweights in Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan have all been linked with him.

Let’s face it. Gouri is unlikely to be in the top 3 choices of Pep Guardiola with the Cityzens also expected to be in the market for Erling Haaland next summer. Haaland’s release clause worth £77 million becomes active only next summer and many teams are looking to trigger it and prize him away from Borussia Dortmund.

While Haaland’s release clause is only worth £77 million, the entire option could cost much more than that and the figure could very well go up to £120 million when one takes the wages that Mino Raiola, Haaland’s agent, has been demanding.

With City considered to be one of the favorites to sign Haaland, do you think City will go for Haaland or would they take a gamble and go for a cheaper alternative in Amine Gouiri?
