Premier League prediction: Ex-Manchester City man gives his opinion on title race
By Zoheb Alam
Manchester City faced a lot of criticism for their recent draw against Southampton at the Etihad Stadium. The defending champions were unable to get past the Saints backline and hence were only able to pick a point from their home fixture.
But for now, the Citizens have made a small comeback from their “dry” fixture as they were able to put six past Wycombe in the FA Cup tie. Moving on, Guardiola’s side will now have to put up another good attacking performance against the Blues this Saturday.
Talking about Chelsea, it seems that the west London outfit has now found an avid supporter in the form of Shaun Wright-Phillips. In a recent interview, the Ex-England man was spotted talking about his opinion on the title race and interestingly he said :
"I have to be honest and right this second, I think Chelsea would pip City to the title. The fact that they don’t have to play well and still come away with 3-0 wins is unbelievable and [Thomas] Tuchel has even said they haven’t played well yet."
The Ex-Manchester City winger also reasoned by saying :
"They might not always play attractive football, but they get results, and they don’t mind not having the ball in spells because they can hit teams on the counter"
Well, Wright-Phillips might have his reasons to not favour his former club, but in a way, it would be unfair to not acknowledge how good this Chelsea team has been since the start of the new season.
Therefore, Guardiola will have his task cut out ahead of his team’s clash against the Blues on Saturday. The Spaniard will be aware of the ‘Tuchel’ threat as he has already lost twice to the German in this calendar year.
This season, the Sky Blues have had some dry spells in the final third as they have missed the services of a proper no.9 in their ranks. However, forwards like Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez have tried to fill in for the striker role. Hence, this attacking trio will again need to step up on Saturday if they are to pick up a win against an in-form Chelsea side.
