Manchester City superstar, Raheem Sterling could be on his way out of the club this winter. Sterling is yet to sign a new contract with the defending Premier League champions but the only thing that might stop him from signing one is the prospect of him missing out on playtime with Pep Guardiola said to be in favor of grooming Ferran Torres and Phil Foden.

Sterling, 26, has established himself as a key member in the Manchester City ranks but the second half of the last season saw him go down the pecking order with Foden getting the nod ahead of him. Consequently, the Englishman was linked with a move away from the club in the recently concluded summer window, despite being England’s best player in the Euro 2020.

Barcelona were heavily linked with a move for Sterling but with the former La Liga champions’ precarious financial situation, the move could not materialize even though Sterling was said to be in favor of a move to Spain.

With Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann off their wage bill, the Catalans have managed to free up some funds and their situation looks a lot better now than it was a few months back. Having said that, the Blaugrana could return for Sterling this winter window and the 26-year-old sees Barcelona as an ideal destination in order to get regular playtime. This comes as per Sport.

Barcelona are likely to return this January for Sterling, in a bid to sign him on a loan deal. The negotiations will not be easy for the Blaugrana who will have a bit more financial freedom this time around.

It must be understood that the likelihood of Barcelona signing Sterling is quite less, given that Depay can play on the left flank as well and with Ansu Fati nearing 100% fitness, Barca will be tempted to count on hum, especially since now that he donned the infamous number ’10’ vacated by Lionel Messi. There are enough options for Barcelona, or at least there will be in a month’s time and the arrival of Sterling could only mean Fati searching for playtime.
