After an entertaining and successful 2020/21 season, the Cityzens are back. Some members of Manchester City’s senior men’s team have returned from their holiday and they will be eager to get back to work. Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy, and Riyad Mahrez were pictured when Manchester City made the announcement on their website.

Others are still absent as a large contingency of City players competed in the 2021 Copa America and 2020 European Championships this summer. These players will return to the squad later this month, although it is unlikely that they will feature in City’s pre-season tour.

Manchester City’s early pre-season training sessions appear to be in doubt, however, as the club recently announced that there was a COVID-19 outbreak in a part of their training ground. This portion of the City Football Academy will be fully cleaned before the team can return to the ground. According to Manchester Evening News, City’s players and coaching staff have been advised to stay away from the City Football Academy for the next 10 days until the matter is resolved.

As for other club news, Manchester City have confirmed two matches for this summer. The Sky Blues will first face Championship side Preston North End on Tuesday, 27 July in a pre-season friendly. Preston finished in 13th place in the Championship last season.

Manchester City will then travel to France. The Sky Blues will take on Troyes on Saturday, 31 July. The French side were recently promoted to League 1 after winning League 2 during the 2020/21 season.

The Sky Blues begin their 2021/22 campaign with the FA Community Shield match against Leicester City on Saturday, 7 August. Manchester City then travel to Tottenham Hotspur for their first English Premier League match of the 2021/22 season. The game will be played in London on Sunday, 15 August.

Manchester City will hope to shake off the cobwebs before the start of another promising season.
