After a successful campaign in the 2020/21 season, Manchester City are all set to begin preparations for their new season. The club is expected to see most of its star members join late due to their recent assignments in Euro and Copa America.

The Cityzens are hopeful of signing fresh faces ahead of their upcoming season, but at the same time, are also being reported to sell some of their first-team players. In my previous article, I mentioned the fact that Manchester City are likely to end up selling Gabriel Jesus before the start of the new campaign.

Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, too, can be shown the exit door for several reasons. The Englishman had a frustrating time at the club last term due to his limited starts under Pep Guardiola.

Arsenal have been tipped to sign the forward as the Gunners are keen to add more steel to their attacking unit. As of now, no official interest has been shown by the former Premier League champions but a move to the Emirates is still very much on the table for the English international.

However, I would like to state a couple of reasons why City should not consider selling their star forward.

#Reason 1- Sterling is still Manchester City’s best attacking option

It goes without saying that the Sky Blues have always been heavily reliant on Sterling for their final third duties. We have seen how Guardiola has put faith in Sterling in high-pressure games.

The recent Champions League final was one big example of it. Despite his limited appearances in a City shirt last season, it remains clear that the forward has not yet lost his place in the team. It has also been reported that the City boss still considers him in his first-team plans and is definitely in favor of keeping him in his ranks.

With Harry Kane being backed to move to the Etihad this summer, it could also be an interesting option for the club to slot both Sterling and Kane in the same lineup. The English attacking duo did combine well in the recent  European Championship and therefore is expected to emulate the same form if they are to reunite at Manchester City.

#Reason 2- Sterling’s recent performances should be a positive for the Sky Blues

Raheem Sterling was in red hot form in the recently concluded Euros as he was instrumental in his side’s progression to the finals of the competition. The 26-year-old scored some vital goals for the Three Lions and hence had enjoyed a good run in front of the goal in the competition.

His club-level performances may not have been impressive last term but his recent form simply gives us a clear indication that the former Liverpool man has found his lost mojo. It is also important to remember that the English attacker has been a vital member of the City squad since his summer move back in 2015.

More from Man City Editorials

The forward has lifted three Premier League titles with the Sky Blues and was almost close to lifting their maiden Champions League title last term.

Hence, it would be unfair to sell Sterling this summer especially after his excellent outing with England in the summer. He certainly deserves another chance at the Etihad to prove himself. The forward could well help the side to reach another Champions League final and can hopefully lift the trophy this season.

Do you think Sterling deserves another shot at Manchester City?
