Manchester City are in desperate need of a striker, now that it has been confirmed that Sergio Aguero will be leaving the club after a period of 10 years.

Erling Haaland has been the striker that has been linked the most with a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer. The 20-year-old is currently one of the brighter prospects in European football and it is no surprise that the top clubs from some of Europe’s top-flight competitions are interested in landing the Norweigan.

Despite claiming that spending an amount in excess of £150 million on a striker this summer could be close to “impossible”, manager Pep Guardiola has refused to rule out the possibility of a transfer involving a striker in a big-money deal, as per Goal.

The former Premier League champions have been linked with Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku in recent weeks and both the strikers have been slapped with £100 million-plus price tags on their backs. Haaland could end up costing between £150 and £180 million for any club that may be interested in landing him though he will be available for as low as £65 million next summer.

Earlier, Pep Guardiola mentioned the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the finances of football clubs all over the world and reiterated the fact that City were treated no different by the ongoing pandemic.

Speaking ahead of the crunch UEFA Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund, Pep Guardiola said:

"“Football is a team game, everyone makes a contribution. Competitions are not won by one player, it is every player.“So far, Man City has decided not to spend close to £100m for a player. Maybe in the future it will happen when the club decides it is necessary to improve the team for the next five to 10 years, but so far the organisation decides not to do it and that’s why we didn’t do it but, maybe in the future.”Source:  Goal"

Erling Haaland is a top prospect in European football and the links between the 20-year-old and the Sky Blues have been growing steadily. Recently, Haaland was spotted sporting a sky-blue color backpack and a mask of the same color and though insignificant, it further fuelled the rumours that Haaland might well be on his way to Manchester City.

It is highly unlikely that the Cityzens would go for Romelu Lukaku this summer, given the Belgian’s history in the Premier League. His red-hot form might be a tempting factor for the think-tank at Manchester City but it does not change the fact that the 27-year-old has failed to set the Premier League on fire during his stints at Chelsea and Manchester United.
