After absolutely dominating, with 11 shots on target to just 1 for Wolves and 73% of the ball, City looked set to drop points after Conor Coady’s equalizer, but a late Gabriel Jesus brace sandwiched between a Riyad Mahrez goal made the result look rather comfortable.
City have continued their immaculate run of form, but up next is their most difficult challenge remaining: a derby against second-place Man United at the Etihad Stadium. City don’t need to win, but as they continue to chase history, closing out this difficult run of games with three points against their rivals would be excellent for momentum.
The world record for consecutive wins in any top-flight league is 27, held by Welsh side The New Saints. Continuing the run a further seven games seems nearly impossible, but this City team is simply refusing to drop points at the moment, so anything is possible.
Wolves tested the champions-elect today with some adversity despite dominating the play, but they still managed to get the right result. There is something truly special brewing around this team, and one can only hope that it will bear fruit at the end of the season.
