City’s 3-1 FA Cup fifth round victory over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium ended up being the decisive match as City rewrote the record books yet again under Pep Guardiola. However, more than anything, it is a testament to just how much this team has turned it around after a poor start to the season. The win was Guardiola’s 200th in charge of City, and during this incredible winning streak, the team have scored 40 goals, conceded just five, and kept 10 clean sheets.
City jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind goals from Kyle Walker, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus to easily secure passage to the next round, but Morgan Whittaker grabbed a late consolation for the home side. Sterling has now scored in four consecutive away matches for the first time in his illustrious career.
With the Champions League returning soon surrounded by a swath of incredibly difficult league games, the Citizens will need to maintain this incredible run of form during a February that will decide the overall fate of their season. For now, however, this is the latest achievement of England’s best team, who remain alive in all four major competitions. There is still much work to be done, but a special season could very well be in the cards for this club.
