Liverpool 1-4 Manchester City: One hand on the title
Manchester City grabbed easily their biggest victory of the season by claiming a thoroughly deserved 4-1 win against Liverpool at Anfield. It is the first time the Citizens have won at the ground since 2003, and just the third time since 1953, and City have put their foot on the throat of the defending champions.

After a tense first half where both sides showed good technical play, the highlight was yet another penalty blazed over the bar at Anfield, this time by the in-form İlkay Gündoğan. City did not hang their heads, however, as they came out with purpose in the second half, capitalizing on an Alisson mistake as Gündoğan redeemed himself with a brace.
Then, after Rúben Dias made a rare mistake in giving away a penalty which Mohamed Salah converted, the team again didn’t hang their heads. City pushed with a flurry of attacks, punishing another Alisson mistake before adding two more late through Raheem Sterling and a Phil Foden wondergoal to seal an emphatic result.
City are now 10 clear of their rivals with a game in hand, which should all but end the Reds’ hopes of defending their crown. Attention may now turn to Man United in second, who are five behind with a game more played. By winning their tenth league game in a row in their biggest test of the season, City are showing the heart of champions, and are the best team in this league by some way.
It’s a monumental game in City’s season, and they are firmly in control of their own destiny from here on out. They must build on this with games against Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton, and West Ham still to play in the coming weeks, but today’s win was a statement of intent that this club means business.
