Sergio Aguero is arguably the most prolific player of all time in Manchester City’s history books. Having been at the club for 10 years, the Argentine has found the net a record 256 times and has lifted the coveted Premier League title four times. In short, the 32-year-old has been a key part of one of the most successful phases of Manchester City. With the player in the final year of his contract, Daily Mail reports that Barcelona are planning to land the striker.

The La Liga giants are cash-strapped and are currently on a tight budget. The Blaugrana believes that Aguero is the perfect replacement for Luis Suarez. The former La Liga champions lack a proper number 9 and Aguero is one of the very best out there. To make matters better for the Catalan giants, they will not be paying a transfer fee for the Argentine.

Manchester City are yet to finalize a contract with the player and which is why his departure looks very likely.

Having said that, it is highly unlikely that the Cityzens would want to hand a new contract to their most successful goal-scorer. This is because over the past year and a half, Aguero has struggled with injuries and hadn’t scored at the Etihad in over an year now. The pace of La Liga football might serve Aguero well in the final stages of his career. Moreover, Lionel Messi and Aguero are on intimate terms and Barcelona are hoping to strike two birds with the same stone. With the arrival of Aguero, Barcelona hope to convince Lionel Messi to stay at the club.

The Sky Blues have been linked with Romelu Lukaku and Erling Haaland in recent times. While Haaland is likely to continue at Dortmund for another season, the Cityzens could try for Lukaku.

Do you think Sergio Aguero will leave Manchester City after a 10-year tenure at the club? Or will the Citzyens sign him for another season?

Only time will tell us.
