In another crushing blow to Pep Guardiola and his men, Sergio Aguero has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now self-isolating. This was confirmed by the player himself via his official Twitter handle. Earlier, it was believed that Aguero had been in close contact with an individual who later tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of this incident, Aguero missed the game against Aston Villa and later confirmed that he is now infected with the disease.

Sergio Aguero is the most prolific and decorated player in the Cityzens’ history and understandably, his absence is a huge blow to the boys in blue. Manchester City’s defense has been rock-solid this season but it’s the attack that’s lacking the finishing touch. Aguero missed most of the first part of the season owing to a knee injury and is now out for a minimum of two weeks. This raises further questions over the Argentine’s future at the Etihad Stadium.

Sergio Aguero is in the final year of his contract with the Sky Blues and there have been no indications from either club or player about their intentions to pen down a new contract. It is highly probable that the former Premier League champions might choose to not extend the contract of their record goal-scorer. If this does happen, it will be due to the 32-year-old’s struggles with injuries over the past year and a half.

Paris Saint-Germain meanwhile, are lurking in the background and Mauricio Pochettino wants him. Aguero is free to pen down a pre-transfer agreement with any club that might approach him and landing Aguero is said to be a key part of PSG’s plans to lure Lionel Messi.

Aguero is arguably the greatest player to have played in a Sky Blue shirt and he will always hold a special place in the hearts of City fans. Wishing for a speedy recovery for the 32-year-old.
