Manchester City set to be rivaled by rivals United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich for long-term target

Manchester City have been keeping a close watch on RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano for a while now. The former Premier League champions are set to be rivaled by fellow rivals in Manchester United and Chelsea, and Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, as per Goal.

Dayot Upamecano is being dubbed as one of the upcoming talents in European football and the 22-year-old is close to reaching the century appearances landmark for RB Leipzig. This is just a testament to the French International’s defensive prowess. He is being considered as the next big thing in the backline.

Bayern Munich have made their interest in the defender official and the club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted it. Leipzig are sure of keeping Upamecano until the end of this season and a winter transfer for the player can be ruled out. However, it is highly likely that the 22-year-old might want to seek a move away from the club in a bid to further his career and play more of Champions League football.

Upamecano has got a release clause worth £45 million in his contract and most likely it is going to be triggered at the end of this season. Leipzig are open to the idea of selling one of their top talents in a bid to lessen the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the club finances.

The likes of Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi have also been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season. However at this moment, the future of Haaland and Messi at their respective clubs. Haaland is likely to stay at Dortmund for another season to develop further as a player. Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona would depend on this season goes and the player has revealed that he will make a decision post the club elections. It seems that the Argentine is keen on hearing out the new president and his project for the club and how he would fit into the plans.
