Lionel Messi is probably one of the greatest footballers to have ever graced the game, i.e. if not the best. His record is unfathomable in reality and never once in his career has he looked panicked. He has one of the coolest minds on the pitch and analyses every step that his opponent takes. He has been the guiding light for Barcelona in the last 2-3 years. His stats are just mind-boggling to look at. Last season alone, the Argentine talisman managed to find the net 31 times (out of the club total of 86 goals) while assisting on 27 occasions, all from just 44 appearances.

So this basically means that Messi managed to create 68 events on the pitch with his mastery in just 44 appearances.

Lionel Messi is very critical for Barcelona even at the age of 33. The early thirties is a delicate age period for footballers where their body begins to give up. The Argentine ace, however, seems to be aging like fine wine. He is probably the world’s most decorated footballer alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and has been the center of attention of European football almost ever since he made his debut, back in 2004.

2020 has been a very rough year, to say the least. However, Barcelona’s most successful player managed to break the internet when he decided to leave the club that has been his home ever since his debut against RCD Espanyol back in 2004. The Blaugrana is in the middle of one of its most dramatic arrests and faced their most embarrassing defeat at the hands of the German giants, Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfinals last season. The former La Liga champions were handed down an 8-2 defeat by the eventual title winners. That was probably the moment when Messi confirmed in his head what had been growing ever since his former teammate, Neymar left. Shortly after the defeat, he sent a Burofax to the club stating his intention to leave. Former club President Bartomeu stuck to the legalities of his contract and the board did not allow the 33-year-old to leave for free. However, the next rumored destination for the Atomic Flea has been Manchester City, ever since he sent the Burofax.

Manchester City were certainly tempted by the prospect of having the World’s best player playing for them but couldn’t sign him then because of the FIFA Financial fair-play regulations. The links have certainly died down a little since then but let us have a look at three reasons why the former Premier League champions must secure the signature of Lionel Andres Messi.

3. The arrival of Messi brings in a financial boost for the club
The playmaker from Argentina earns a whopping 500,000 Pounds per week. Though it is a serious figure, it must be mentioned that his tremendous fanbase and following make up the other side of the coin. Millions adore Messi and would simply pay to watch him play. Not to mention, about 2 million shirts with Messi’s name printed on the back are sold on an annual basis and Barcelona earns around 34 million Pounds on an average from his jersey sales alone.

Messi’s large fan base is going to attract a lot of revenue for the club and it will considerably lessen the wage load of Manchester City.

Not to forget, if with the help of the 33-year-old, Manchester City manage to get their hands on the Premier League title, they will be rewarded with a whopping 150 million pounds prize money. On the other hand, a Champions League title win will see them earn up to 19 million Euros.
