Manchester City head into matchday three of the Champions League with a vice grip on Group C.

Manchester City’s form has picked up with back-to-back victories over Marseille and Sheffield Wednesday, but the biggest test of their season so far is just around the corner against Liverpool. However, with City returning home for the first time in some time for a Champions League fixture against Olympiacos, they must be ready.

City have six points out of six in the group, while Olympiacos are among the contenders for second place. City will play consecutive midweek games against the Greek side, who currently sit third in a very even three-team race on three points from their first two matches. As City’s last warm-up opportunity to kick it into high gear before their match against Liverpool, the Citizens will look to put up a big number at home for the first time this season.

More from Game preview

While the Liverpool match is of the utmost importance, City cannot overlook Olympiacos, who grabbed a point against Tottenham in the group stage a year ago and will be in with a chance to qualify. City can take a massive step toward qualification and top spot in the group with a win here, so the team will need to remain focused on taking all three points against inferior opposition who will set out to defend and sneak a point on the road.

Predicted XI: Ederson (GK), Kyle Walker (RB), Rúben Dias (CB), Aymeric Laporte (CB), Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB), Rodri (CDM), İlkay Gündoğan (CDM), Kevin De Bruyne (CAM), Raheem Sterling (RW), Ferran Torres (ST), Phil Foden (LW)
