Manchester City were in full control at the Stade Vélodrome in their 3-0 win over Marseille.

Manchester City made it six points from six in the Champions League with a straightforward victory away at Marseille in what could have been a difficult fixture. Marseille never really managed to threaten a City backline featuring the solid partnership of Aymeric Laporte and Rúben Dias, and their attack produced two second-half goals to see off the home side after a relatively slow start.

With the win, City are well on top of Group C and have beaten arguably the two most talented contenders in the group. With back-to-back matches coming up against Olympiacos, the Citizens could all but seal top spot and easy passage to the Round of 16. City were much better in this match then they have been in recent weeks, as they looked in full control from the start. While there are no guarantees that this will translate back to the league, but this was their best performance of the season against not-insignificant opposition. Marseille offered far less resistance than I had initially anticipated, but I believe this performance is more down to City playing well than Marseille performing poorly.

Injuries and mounting fixtures will remain a concern, but consistency at the back could be the key as they move into a stretch that will include Liverpool and Tottenham in league games that will play an early role in deciding the title contention picture. It’s a great performance and result for City today, but proving that they should be considered the favorites to regain the title will be determined in the coming weeks.
