Manchester City sail past Burnley 3-0
Manchester City played a relatively strong side and cruised past Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor.
Manchester City bounced back from their embarrassing 5-2 weekend home defeat against Leicester City with an impressive showing in the Carabao Cup against Burnley, coming away with a 3-0 win.
Raheem Sterling put in a Man of the Match performance after struggling to get involved through the middle against the Foxes, scoring two and assisting the third. Ferran Torres finally put on the electric showing City supporters had been hoping for, scoring his first goal for the club while also grabbing an assist.
While the team was very strong, Cole Palmer was given the opportunity to make his debut and performed well. With players such as Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva returning to action for the first time this season, the hope is that City will be able to correct course to stay in with Liverpool.

This win, coupled with the arrival of Rúben Dias, will give City hope of finally having sorted their defensive issues, although several questions remain. Burnley are hardly the best attacking side City will face this season, and even during the disappointment of last season managed results such as the one today, so it should be taken with a grain of salt until we see consistent improvement.
Nevertheless, this is a good result for the team as they continue to advance in a competition they know very well. City are chasing history as they go for their fourth straight league cup title, but with a six-point gap to Liverpool already in the Premier League, it should be far from the top priority for Pep Guardiola’s men moving forward.
