The Premier League announced on Thursday the creation of a Hall of Fame to honor the greatest players to grace the pitches of English football, and several current and former Manchester City stars are worthy of the nod.

While Manchester City may not have the historic excellence of some of their modern domestic rivals, they have been the dominant force in the Premier League over the course of the last decade, and will surely see some of their current and former stars inducted into the newly-created Premier League Hall of Fame.

They will begin with two inductions, with the main restrictions being that it only applies from the creation of the Premier League in 1992 and that only retired players are eligible. This rules out many of City’s key stars in the immediate, but here’s who will have a fantastic chance in the future:

1. Vincent Kompany

City’s eternal captain and club legend is one of the greatest defenders of the Premier League era, won an incredible amount of trophies during his 11-year tenure at Manchester City, and has scored some of the most crucial goals in the club’s history. Kompany is not only a club icon, but a legend of the modern Premier League.

2. David Silva

El Mago is a surefire induction, as City’s current club captain is in his final season in Manchester but will go down as one of the most creative players to ever play on English shores. Blessed with incredible technical ability, he was the architect behind City’s success this decade, and deserves to be enshrined as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.

3. Yaya Touré

In 2014, Touré put up one of the most dominant seasons from midfield in history, while also being a standout player on City’s pre-Guardiola title-winning sides. A powerful player who could do just about anything, Touré’s peak was unplayable.

4. Sergio Agüero

City’s all-time leading goalscorer, the all-time foreign-born Premier League goalscorer, and the Premier League hat-trick record. The numbers speak for themselves; Agüero is arguably the greatest striker this league has ever seen, and although he is far from done at the top, when he calls it a career, he should be quickly inducted as one of the all-time great forwards in English football.

5. Kevin de Bruyne

On pure ability, De Bruyne is the best player to ever play for Manchester City. I believe the Belgian will be revered at the Etihad much in the same way that legends such as Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are regarded at Chelsea and Liverpool, respectively. KDB should be the future club captain once David Silva departs, and he looks set to break even more assist records as he eyes up Thierry Henry’s mark of 20 in a Premier League season with plenty of matches still to play.
