Manchester City propelled themselves to a huge first-leg advantage against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 win at Old Trafford.

In a highly-anticipated Carabao Cup semi-final, Manchester City got their revenge against rivals United following the Red Devils’ 2-1 win at the Etihad in the Premier League.

City came flying out of the gates, taking a 3-0 first half lead after a stunning long-range strike from Bernardo Silva opened the scoring. Riyad Mahrez and an own goal from Andreas Periera following a great run from Kevin de Bruyne capped off a brilliant performance as City took command of the tie.

The second leg at the Etihad will take place in three weeks, and there are no away goals or extra time, so should United grab a 2-0 win, it will go directly to a shootout. The Citizens look poised to defend their Carabao Cup title once again and potentially win the trophy for a third straight season, which would make it five league cup wins in the last seven seasons.
