This was the best Manchester City performance of the season so far.

It was great to see Manchester City players committed all over the pitch, pressing high and with intensity, and supported by colleagues, who covered behind them.

It was not a surprise that City started the game by conceding to the first shot on target. It was a well taken goal, but the ball behind for a fast player like Jamie Vardy to run onto is our achilles heel.

Of course, it took some panache for Vardy to actually finish the chance too.

However, City responded to that disappointment with steely grit and determination, suggesting there will still be plenty to cheer come the end of the campaign.

We look now at the individual player performances which contributed to this victort and try to select a Man of the Match. We start by looking at the defence.
