In our formation we have a defensive midfielder and a very difficult decision to make. This is a position where we have been blessed. Nigel de Jong was one of my favourite players. His no nonsense approach is still missed here.

Gareth Barry was much under rated as the glue who powered our side -the proverbial water carrier who put in the hard yards to allow others to shine.

But Fernandinho is the master tactician on the field, capable of really reading the game and making his intervention count, despite the fact he actually joined as an attacking midfielder.

In the further forward midfield roles there are three players who stand out for the positions. Firstly, our vote goes to the man who elevated our club out of the past through a goal at Wembley and then caught fire – Yaya Toure.

We would play him alongside David Silva – who may just be the most skillful player we have ever enjoyed at City, capable of finding space in the the most confined areas.

Finally the arrival of Kevin de Bruyne would complete our midfield. What a sight it would be to see all of them together – at the height of their powers! It would be a lethal forward combination, even if there was very little tracking back. That is what Fernandinho would be for.
