Manchester City claimed a comprehensive 3:0 victory over Shakhtar in their opening Champions League game of the 2019/20 season.

It did not go unnoticed that the only English side to claim a victory in the opening round of Champion’s League fixtures was Manchester City. These days there is a an expectation that City will progress into the knock out rounds in the competition, aided by the routine draws we have received so far.

The combination of our extensive possession based success, an unexciting draw group and the apathy of many of the Manchester City supporters towards UEFA is making the competition quite hard to get excited about.

Nonetheless many Manchester City supporters made the 4000 mile journey to the Ukraine to support their team, despite only having 2 weeks notice of the fixture and no direct flights. Hats off to their dedication because they got to see a performance of grit and determination.

Man City Square take a look at the individual player performances in the game and try to select a standout Man of the Match. We start as always by looking at our defensive unit.
