Pep Guardiola had a good afternoon. His team selection was solid, especially as it played many of Manchester City’s best and most-fit players in a game where Liverpool decided to field a nearly full-strength best XI.

The one knock on him was that he wasn’t as aggressive at using his substitutions as he should have been. City were looking very fatigued as a squad well before Liverpool equalized. Yet, he made just two subs in the second half, including waiting until Kevin De Bruyne went down with cramps to sub him off. Though a trophy was on the line, he should have been a bit more aggressive at keeping the team fresh, especially since many of the players in the side hadn’t played a full 90 all pre-season.

Other than that, it was fine management (as usual).

MOTM: GK, Claudio Bravo

Claudio Bravo was the standout in the side today. If not for his incredible saves and distribution, Manchester City may have found themselves on the end of a lop-sided scoreline in the second half.
