Manchester have won the FA Community Shield for the second consecutive season. How did everyone grade out in their season opener?

The winning keeps on coming for Manchester City Football Club!

City beat Liverpool 5-4 on penalties in the FA Community Shield after playing to a 1-1 draw during regulation. Their win over Liverpool means the club have now won four domestic trophies in the same calendar year, the first English side to ever achieve that.

The game was a relatively even affair.

Manchester City were the better side in the first half, landing a goal at the foot of Raheem Sterling, and creating several other good chances. City’s lack of match sharpness, however, saw the team’s execution in the final third flounder at key moments.

In the second half, City’s lack of match fitness and match sharpness saw them play on the back foot. Liverpool created several chances before Virgil Van Dijk assisted a Joel Matip header to equalize late in the going. A few great saves by Claudio Bravo, and an incredible clearance by Kyle Walker off the goal line in the dying embers of the game, kept things level.

City then put on a clinic in the penalty shootout, scoring on all five opportunities to secure the FA Community Shield for a second successive season.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at how everyone played in the Manchester City side today.
