Given his performances over last season, even in limited minutes. there’s real reason to believe Phil Foden will make an even greater impact on Manchester City next season.

As we have seen, Foden was already a solid contributor to the squad, even in a limited amount of games and minutes. He rarely looked out of place in the squad when he was given the chance, and he made an impression on several games in a decisive way.

Pep Guardiola clearly believes in his talent as well. He has consistently praised him and appears to view him as being the future of Manchester City’s midfield. His late season start against Spurs, in a crucial Premier League match that could have decided the title,  demonstrates just how much Guardiola believes in him and trusts him already.

Manchester City are also entering the 2019-20 season knowing that their legendary midfield creative ace, David Silva, will be leaving at the end of it.  City will need to begin transitioning someone into this role for the future. Though Bernardo Silva may be the natural heir to this job, Foden has shown already at age 19 that he’s more than deserving of the opportunity too. All of this suggests that Foden should factor in as a more regular starter next year.

Though he’ll have some of the best midfielders in the world to compete with next season, Foden has shown already that he deserves to a major role in the team. His ceiling may be the highest of any midfielder in the world too. 2019-20 is the time for Foden to begin his path to becoming the world-class, impact talent that he’s capable of being.
