Though his season was volatile by his lofty standards, David Silva was still one of Manchester City’s best players this season.

David Silva might have been streakier than usual during the 2018-19 season, but he was still one of Manchester City’s best performers.

On the whole, Silva ended up making 50 appearances in all competitions, racking up ten goals and 14 assists along the way. His goal tally saw him finish as the seventh and final player in the squad to rack up double digit goals during the season. His 14 assists placed him a tie for third in the side with his fellow namesake in the team, Bernardo Silva.

His total goals contribution (goals and assists) finished at 24, tied for sixth best in the team with Riyad Mahrez.

His form rating in the league for the season finished at a 7.26, his second lowest overall rating in a league season since he joined the club back in the summer of 2010. However, he was still the team’s fifth best player in the league by this metric, and his season form rating this year was only marginally below his rating from two seasons ago (7.28).

David Silva also finished the season with a 7.34 rating in the UEFA Champions League which was seventh best in the side. He finished top of the team in key passes per game in the league (2.2) and was fourth in club in the UCL (2.1).

Thus, for the significant struggles he had at times. David Silva still had a very good season for the club. He was Manchester City’s driving creative force for much of the season, just like had been for years. Had Silva not hit such a high level in the early and middle parts of the season, it’s unlikely that City would have went on to win the Premier League title.

His time at the club will be coming to an end soon. However, Silva has had, potentially, the best tenure out of any of City’s legendary figures during this golden period of the club’s history. So long as he remains on the team, he will continue to be one of City’s best and most important creative players.
