Many fans were happy to see the Nike kit deal expire given quite how many uninspiring Manchester City kits they had presided over, but as the new Puma kits await release the same fans have started fretting about these too!

Just when many Manchester City fans were pleased to see the back of the Nike kit deals, suddenly they released a not for sale commemorative red and black striped warm up shirt for the FA Cup Final. This was a thing of beauty, just what the fans had been crying out for. But Nike doing it now and making it not for sale seemed like a final insult.

Instead the City fans have turned to start worrying about the new Puma home shirt. Before we even start there are some inherent issues to contend with – like the muscle fit tightness of the Puma shirts which will make anyone over 10 stone look as though they have been wrapped in cling film.

Matters have been confounded by two things in recent weeks. Firstly a series of frankly horrid City shirts have started to appear for sale in the Far East. Some of these designs appear to be concept kits rather than the real thing so panic not!

Secondly and somewhat more seriously, Puma have confirmed the colour scheme to be used on the new shirts- blue, white and purple. Purple??

Now we have a long history and association with a maroon colour so maybe, just maybe we should give the purple the benefit of the doubt.  But then again this is a home jersey we are talking about here so purple just seems wrong.

It appears as though it’s a gimmick rather than a careful homage to the market. Of course whilst writing all of this I have to reluctantly concede I am not the target audience here. As a 50 odd year old bloke, its unlikely to be me wearing it. However my kids will want it regardless of how it looks!

What appears to he the new home kit has now been leaked on Footy headlines and this appears to be the real deal. It has the purple arm stripes, and 125 years under the badge. So what do we think blues? And purples?

Will this be the kit we win the Champions League in and retain the League title?
