With rumors swirling that Bayern Munich are pursuing Leroy Sane this summer, Manchester City must do what they can to keep him at the club.

With the 2018-19 season in the rear view mirror for Manchester City Football Club, rumors have begun to swirl over who may arrive and depart in the summer transfer window.

One of the prominent names being linked with a move away is someone who struggled to break into the squad for most of the second half of the season: Leroy Sane.

Bayern Munich’s President, Uli Hoeness, told “Munich-based newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung,” on Thursday that Bayern are “looking into the player.”

This confirmation that the club are interested in pursuing a transfer comes just one day after the team’s star forward, Robert Lewandowski, “encouraged” the team to sign Sane, someone who he referred to as  “a player who can immediately take us higher,” and who “improves the team.”

The links of a move away from Manchester City aren’t all that surprising. Sane spent much of the second of the half of the season on the bench as a reserve while City went on to win 14 league games on the bounce in their historic league title defense over Liverpool, and went on to win  their first domestic treble in English top-flight history. This also coincided with stalled contract talks between the player and team.

City are in a difficult position with him as they enter the summer. His talent is obvious for all to see, and he’s been among the best young players in the world since he signed for the club back in the summer of 2016. However, his play has been inconsistent, it appears as if he and manager Pep Guardiola don’t get along at times, and he has just two years left on his original contract. City run the risk of losing him for a substantially reduced fee in 2020, or on a free transfer the year after, if he does not re-sign with the club now.

The decision, however, should be clear for the club. They must do everything they can to keep Leroy Sane this summer.

Let’s take a look at his time at City and what the future could potentially hold for him.
